DIVA STYLES PROJECT: HONG KONG 90S CHILDHOOD

About the Project

This project is about my childhood in Hong Kong in the 90s and centers on being an Indian born in 1991. I was born in Hong Kong, which is not my ancestral homeland, and that upbringing shaped a unique sense of identity. Hong Kong in the 90s was a very different era — for an Indian child like me it meant experiencing a distinct lifestyle, greater cultural exposure, and opportunities that contrasted with the experiences of kids growing up in India at the time.

A lot of the props are inspired by my interests as a kid — from my fascination with bright neon street signs to the playful edge of 90s fashion, enjoying simple treats like fish balls, and the fond memories of playing Twister and Monopoly with my family.
